Saving the world, one little life at a time.
Volunteer Your Time
Little Miracles Rabbit Rescue is an all-volunteer organization. Without the dedication of dozens of volunteers, it would not be possible to care for and re-home the many bunnies that pass through our rescue. Our only limitation is our resources. You can help!
Help Needed
- Foster Homes: We are asked to take in more bunnies than we can house in our Florida facility. If you live in the Southwest Florida area, preferably between Hillsboro County and Lee Counties, consider becoming a foster home. We provide cages, food and start up supplies, and you get the joy of helping, all while only housing a few bunnies. We especially need homes for "special needs" rabbits, those that may be sick, injured, or otherwise unadoptable. Before volunteering to foster, please read our Fostering Commitment and become familiar with what is expected of our foster homes.
- Call Takers: We need people to volunteer to check our phone messages one or two days per week, every week on their designated day(s). Call takers need to respond to every phone call by directing the matter to the responsible person via email. We get calls about surrendering rabbits, adoptions, questions, and requests for emergency help. Call takers need to check messages frequently throughout the 24-hour day and respond accordingly. Basic training is provided.
- Kennel Help: We need volunteers in the Port Charlotte / North Port area to help clean cages and feed and water the rabbits on a regular basis, weekly or monthly.
- Drivers: We need people to pick up and transport rabbits to and from shelters, homes, veterinarian appointments, etc. If you live anywhere in South or Central Florida and are willing to drive to our Port Charlotte facility when the need arises, please consider being a driver.
- Public Relations: Outgoing, personable volunteers are needed to attend adoption events and pet expos. The LMRR "uniform" is jeans and a Little Miracles Rabbit Rescue t-shirt. Volunteers need to set up and break down the exhibit, answer questions, hand out literature, and otherwise promote the rescue.
- Marketing Specialists: We need volunteers to do online advertising and research. The marketing specialist reviews online message boards and mailing lists, and researches grants and other fundraisers that may benefit the rescue. We also need the marketing specialist to locate events and pet expos for our public relations folks to attend.
- Fundraising Supervisor: A very resourceful, creative person is needed to organize events, research fundraising ideas, and plan our fundraising drives. If you have experience in this area, even better! You don't even have to live in Florida.
Newsletter Editor: A computer-savvy, rabbit-loving volunteer with great writing skills is needed to create and distribute our 4-page newsletter every four or five months. The editor maintains our mailing list and takes responsibility for printing, copying, folding and mailing the newsletter. The rescue, of course, incurs the costs associated with the newsletter.- Thank-You Writer: We send thank-you letters to our donors and others who go out of their way to help the rescue. A computer-literature writer is needed to compose and send thank-you letters and cards. Materials are supplied by the rescue.
